Foods You Can Eat on the Paleo Diet
83"I wanna eat like a caveman". Not something you ever thought you'd say, I'll bet. You've read a bit about the Paleo diet, you may have even read my review on it, but you still wonder what exactly is on the menu. When you think of eating like a caveman I'm sure munching on grub worms and wheat grass comes to mind, but that's pretty far from the truth actually. Cavemen were hunter/gatherers. So they ate what they could run down and kill, and what fruits and veggies they were lucky enough to stumble on. I'm sure they dined on the occasional grub worm now and again, but you have a distinct advantage over our caveman ancestors. You live in a time where you can buy choice cuts of meat and load up on all the fresh produce you could ever want.
You have access to more variety than Og the Caveman could ever dream of, so you shouldn't think of the Paleo diet as a "diet" in the traditional sense. It isn't so much a diet as a way of life. You are simply making the conscious decision to eat healthy, natural foods, instead of the processed junk that passes as food these days. Your plate will never be more full and you wont believe how good you will feel.

Foods You Can Eat on the Paleo Diet
So what's being served up on the menu? Quite a lot. You're eating like a caveman, so that means you eat what Og had access to. Og didn't milk cows, he hunted them. So no dairy. No milk, no butter, no yogurt, no ice cream, no half and half in your coffee. Og also didn't farm, so no wheat products. This means no bread, not pasta, no cereal, no wheat thins, no cookies or cake. Get used to it. You know that you shouldn't be indulging in most of those things anyways. Now that you've freaked out a little bit let me clarify. This is not meant to be a list No's. You can eat so much on the Paleo diet that you'll still be satisfied and full. The combinations of lean meats, seafood's, vegetables, fruits, and nuts are almost endless and the recipes you can find are extremely tasty.

This is not meant to be a completely comprehensive list of all the foods that are acceptable on the Paleo diet. It's more of a general guide. Meats and vegetables should make up the bulk of your diet, followed by fruits, nuts, and healthy fats. As you can see, you will hardly starve on the Paleo diet. The ametuer chef can come up with quite a few delectable dishes from this list of ingredients. Make your ancestor Og pround and dine on some delicious flame roasted elk steak with a side of chestnuts.

There are a number of health benefits which go with this lifestyle. The paleo diet contains less contaminants and more omega-3s and essential nutrients than an average American diet. Adherents claim that they have significantly less acne while on the Paleo diet and reduced abdominal bloating.
This diet is popular with athletes due to the high protein content which helps to build muscle mass and strength. Not only does it help with muscles but you lose weight on this diet as well. There are studies that show a lowering of blood pressure, lower lipid counts and a lowering of the risk of diabetes and heart disease.
